Pros | Cons |
Photographers don’t need to instruct anyone on what to do as subjects are already taking part | Not all attendants will want to be photographed. |
There is often multiple things happening at once making images more interesting | If in a dark room, then lighting can be an issue. |
If there is lots of subjects, then it can be quick and easy to continuously find things to photograph. | It is easy to miss a good moment on film and not have another chance. |
This first image shows a girl looking up with party lights all around her surrounded by multiple different people, the audience can tell that this is a party from the context clues and the multitude of others around the girl looking of similar age and height. The girl is in a much lighter clothing than the others around her and is in the centre of the frame with a light on her face, this draws the attention of the audience as she is probably the birthday girl or the focus point of the image. however, the entirety of the party is the focus of the photo not her individually. To take this photo I stood on the sidelines as to not be noticed or being the way of the event, standing on the side of the stage. Due to the fast movement of the girls hands she's not fully in focus with a slight blur of the motion and the people around her. most of the background is visible but not in focus as well as the foreground this is to not draw any attention to anything specific in the photo as the party overall is the intended message to the viewer.
The second photo shows a girl in a party dancing she is wearing a blue outfit and a white cap which is illuminated by one of the lights floating around the room, the audiences attention is drawn to her she is in the centre of the frame likely enjoying the event. To take this a photographer was across the room and needed to zoom in as though to not interfere with the events of the occasion and took this one photo focused on the girl in the middle of the frame as she seemed to be happily dancing. In an event, the photographer does not always have an extended period of time to ensure that the camera or equipment is in focus and frequently re-adjusting, therefore, not all photos may come out as fully planned. This photo, on the other hand, is for the most part in focus and clearly visible while the other attendance are in shadows or towards the background as to not draw attention from the main focus point of the image.
The final photo has a lot of purple lighting around the event and many people, this photo does not have a main focus point however shows the audience that there is an event in that there is a party occurring. But taking this if photographer ensured that the people were on the bottom half of the screen and multiple different lightings were visible in the top half of the screen this divides it evenly and shows context to what is happening but also allows for the audience to see the room rather than just a few people in darker lighting without much visible. some of the girls are smiling and laughing enjoying their time possibly conveying this on to the audience further intriguing them.
