Aperture

 The rate of the exposure is how open the lens is, this determines how much light hits the image sensor. The aperture also decides and affects the depth of field for an image, affecting what is in focus. 

Pros

The freedom in choice to blur a background or keep everything in focus.

A very low aperture can result in a super bright photo. 

Can capture detailed images.

A very high aperture can result in a super dim photo. 

Low aperture can reduce motion blur 

The corners of a photo can be dark 



for this design I decided to take the same photo twice adjusting the aperture as much as visibly possible. As you can see in the first image the girl is very clearly seen and you can see the details of her hair even the smaller ones that are lifting in the wind, with a very blurred background but as she is the only thing in the foreground, she is completely visible drawing the attention of the viewer. The audience focus on her and the fact that she is looking out and what she is doing or wearing this contradicts to the connotation and denotation of the second image with a difference in aperture levels.


This second photo shows the same girl looking into the same distance however with a complete re adjustment of the aperture as the background is completely in focus from the small details of the window the clock and the tree compared to the foreground of her shoulder and her being completely blurred not being able to tell much detail, however this is not needed as the audience are paying attention to what she's looking out to, with a partial denotation in the back of their mind reminding them that they're looking at the same thing somebody else is, what this does is make the photo more interesting and has more meaning to the location as it probably means a lot to the person viewing it  [in this case the girl to the left of the screen].
