Digitally manipulated

Image
Not all photos come out as planned, this is where digital postproduction manipulation takes place. This process means that an editor makes changes to the images as the final product to make the image appear differently   Pros  Cons  If something goes wrong with the photo it can be fixed.  Changing one thing may effect the rest, like brightening the image may appear pixelated. Editing can make the photo prettier and more appealing to those viewing  If caught some audience members can be angry and unpleased  If the location of shooting was limited, some people may never know. The morph of reality to gaslight others may come around to make other things seem fake  This first edit is of two girls lying down on the grass this photo was taken during sunset in the middle of a field, therefore there is not much light and needed an extended shutter speed. Both girls are looking directly into the camera with the edited version showing one girl standing out...

Event photography

Image
The use of high-quality images during an event is to capture the importance of the occasion and the business of the activities. To fulfil  a number of  requirements like remembering the  memories, or  getting natural moments in candid photos of movements.  Pros  Cons  Photographers don’t need to instruct anyone on what to do as subjects are already taking part  Not all attendants will want to be photographed. There is often multiple things happening at once making images more interesting  If in a dark room, then lighting can be an issue. If there is lots of subjects, then it can be quick and easy to continuously find things to photograph.  It is easy to miss a good moment on film and not have another chance.  This first image shows a girl looking up with party lights all around her surrounded by multiple different people, the audience can tell that this is a party from the context clues and the multitude of others around the ...

Triptych

Image
This photography style includes three consecutive   images   that together create a story board of events. One photo may not make as much much sense as when it is put with the rest to finish the story.  Pros  Cons  The possibilities increases from one snap shot to three, meaning its easier to show the movement of a subject.  If the photographer isn’t careful then viewers may be confused at the actions between the images and not put together the motion so well. Viewers can admire the media pieces for longer and have more to denote.  Some may feel limited to only three images.  To show different elements to the same subject. If separated, one photo may not make sense.  These three images when placed together in the correct chronological order create a story. The first part of this story shows 2 girls in a conversation with neither of them looking too happy, the girl on the right is seemingly talking while the girl on the left seems to be...

Shutter speed

Image
A shutter speed is how quickly the shutter on a camera opens and closes to take the photo. This can be used in many ways but generally the higher the shutter speed (1/1000) the clearer the image. And the lower it is (4’) the more blur there is. Pros  Cons  Fast motion action and be captured clearly with a high shutter speed. If the shutter is a little low the photo can be slightly blurry but the photographer my not realise until post production  Light writing is created through a low shutter speed, as well as other effects.  The higher the shutter speed the less light is let into the lens, therefore if its too dark the shutter cant be as high. This can be adjusted depending on movement and light to the right settings  Some cameras may change shutter speed at the same time as exposure decreasing light as the shutter speed increases  Firstly, there is a girl standing outside in the night time there are a few buildings lay in the background and she seem...

Aperture

Image
The rate of the exposure is how open the lens is, this determines how much light hits   the   image sensor. The aperture also decides and affects the depth of field for an image, affecting what is in focus.  Pros  Cons  The freedom in choice to blur a background or keep everything in focus. A very low aperture can result in a super bright photo.  Can capture detailed images. A very high aperture can result in a super dim photo.  Low aperture can reduce motion blur  The corners of a photo can be dark  for this design I decided to take the same photo twice adjusting the aperture as much as visibly possible. As you can see in the first image the girl is very clearly seen and you can see the details of her hair even the smaller ones that are lifting in the wind, with a very blurred background but as she is the only thing in the foreground, she is completely visible drawing the attention of the viewer. The audience focus on her an...

Photos at night

Image
Photography at night can be harder to see because of the lack of light however often photographers will use a flash or minimal light to create a dim view. This  style   of photography is a specific genre that has different connotations to images taken in the daylight.  Pros  Cons  Easily portrays darkens or horror.  Can be hard to so the photo because of lack of light.  Can make a simple location more interesting through lights. Images can be grainy because of a high ipso number. The weather has less affect, rain adds to the cool affect rather than it gloomy and cloudy.  Blurry due to low shutter speed settings. here there is a girl in the middle of a road with buildings in the distance and with two other people to her side that aren't in focus, therefore not drawing too much attention. To take this photo we decided not to use the flash aspect however, we did remain with the choice of a DSLR camera as it is more likely to let in further lig...

Light writing

Image
This process Is with a setting of a low shutter speed in order to capture the movement of light in the photograph. A low exposure is also helpful because of how long the shutter is letting light in, the photo can be over exposed easily if more light is let in. this technique can used to create blur or interesting shapes around a still subject. Pros  Cons  Eye catching effects can be created.  Its hard for other aspects to be completely still. Slow shutter speed gives less chance for shadows to be visible. Other light movement may take away from the main focus  Illusions of movement can be captured  If a specific movement is wanted it may take multiple tries to get it right.  The next image has two guys possibly denoted as in a fight or battle, with their two different stances and seemingly motion caught on camera, they're outside in the evening and although the facial expressions are unclear neither of them seem happy. When taking this photo once aga...

Studio lighting

Image
A studio lighting set up is inside with cameras and specific lighting created perfectly for the exact vison the photographer has in mind. The conditions in a studio are all controlled meaning there is no wind or shadows if that’s not desired.   Pros  Cons  All effects are controlled (wind, movement  etc ) Need to hire more people to do more jobs No limitation to hours of day light, or weather conditions. No creative backgrounds or setting-  has to  be added in  post production . Can have multiple lights including adaptable  colours  and brightness.  Artists can’t gain inspiration from around the location, all details  have to  be thought of previously.  This girl is seen in the centre of the camera looking to the audience is right, her hair is down and frames her face while she is visibly sat cross legged rotated to the side, in front of the camera. When taking this we liked the idea of a portrait with a girl comfor...

natural lighting

Image
Natural lighting is the most frequently used lighting source for images as lots of moments are captured outside where the sun is the main source of light, if not the only source of light. This can become an advantage as well as a disadvantage   Lighting  Pros  Cons  Sunny  Fully lit photograph, allowing the shutter to be high and aperture to be low while still seeing a lot of light in the product  Only one source and can blind the camera, overexposing the image  Shadows  Adds depth, dimension, and a dramatic effect as well as strengthening an images narrative  If a light is too strong or too weak the shadows may not be clear Silhouette  A silhouette can convey a lot through semiotics and through the simple use of shapes and outlines  Can be hard to capture correctly with the figure clearly outlined  Taken on a mobile phone, this image shows a teen girl sitting on a bench looking out with nobody else around. This peaceful...
